How to play Imposter
A party game for 3 or more players. Takes a minute to learn and a few minutes per round.
The goal
The crew wants to find the imposter. The imposter wants to stay hidden – or guess the secret word.
What you need
3 or more players and one iPhone with Imposter. Or everyone's own iPhone, if you play together in the same room.
Setting up
Add the players, pick one or more categories and choose how many imposters there are, the clue for the imposter and the timer. You can also choose a game mode and turn on elimination.
1. Look at your card
Pass the phone around, or look at your own phone. Hold the card to see it; it hides again when you let go. Everyone except the imposter sees the secret word.
2. Say one word each
Follow the speaking order and say one word each that fits the secret word. The crew wants to show they know the word without making it easy for the imposter to guess.
3. Discuss
Talk it over until the timer runs out, or for as long as you like. Who said something strange? Who was too vague?
4. Vote
Everyone votes in secret on the phone. The player with the most votes is out.
5. The imposter's last chance
If the imposter is caught, they get one guess at the secret word. A correct guess steals the win.
Scores
The crew scores when they catch the imposter. The imposter scores by staying hidden or guessing the word. Imposter keeps the score for your group round after round.
Variants
Play Double Agent, Ghost or Chaos for different twists, turn on elimination to keep going until the imposter is out, or use family mode for younger players.
